Genealogy Club: What Our Handwriting Leaves Behind--A Genealogical & Historical Journey Through Script

Handwriting is so much more than words on a page — it’s a personal imprint of someone’s life. The way a person wrote can reflect their world, their experiences, their education, and even the emotions they carried.

In this engaging program, we’ll explore how handwriting found in letters, journals, signatures, wills, postcards, and historical documents can offer meaningful clues about the people who came before us. Together, we’ll look at how writing styles have changed over time and how factors like culture, social environment, health, and life circumstances can shape the way someone writes.

Participants will be guided through real examples of historical and family documents and shown how to observe handwriting with a more curious and informed eye. The session is designed to spark conversation, sharing, and discovery — giving patrons and Genealogy Club members new ways to connect with the stories, personalities, and lived experiences behind the documents they treasure.

Program will cover:

• how to observe emotional, physical, and situational influences in historical writing
• ways to approach old family documents with a more trained and curious eye

About Rolando 

Rolando P. Garcia is an intuitive handwriting analyst and the founder of Write Your Ways LLC, a Nebraska-based practice devoted to self-discovery, historical exploration, and human connection through handwriting. His academic background includes undergraduate studies in psychology and political science, which laid the foundation for his lifelong fascination with human behavior, expression, and personality.

Over the years, Rolando has worked with individuals, couples, community groups, and organizations, exploring handwriting from both a personal and historical lens — from modern journal entries and signatures to letters, artwork, and archival documents. His work blends observation, psychology, and intuitive insight to help people better understand themselves and the stories behind the written word.

After nearly three decades in higher-education administration in California and abroad, Rolando relocated to Omaha to begin what he calls his “Rolando 2.0” chapter — reinventing himself and fully stepping into his passion for handwriting analysis. In today’s increasingly digital world, he is dedicated to preserving handwriting as a meaningful human imprint and to showing how it continues to offer insight, connection, and relevance in modern life.
