A small and resilient shorebird, Piping Plovers have made significant progress since being first listed as threatened under both the U.S. and Massachusetts Endangered Species Acts. Each summer, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) protects nesting plovers across 21 of the state’s public beaches – including Quincy’s own Wollaston Beach – to ensure the continued recovery of the species while facilitating successful coexistence with summer beach recreation. Come learn the stewardship story of the Piping Plovers on Wollaston Beach and discover how we all have a role to play in their ability to flourish, from the day they hatch to the moment they embark on their long journey south for the winter, and when they return to our beaches in the spring.
